Fletcher Avenue - 10am - 2 Hours

Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

this was a great class. Jaqueline taught us how to draw objects and think of light sources to create the multidimensionality and different ways to play with shades and shadows. By the end of the class I had a better understanding of the concept and my drawing improved in just a couples of hours.

Good environment and great people. I really like the idea of meeting outdoors. Jay is very knowledgeable and concerned with our learning. She gives us instructions and examples and handouts but more importantly she lets us explore and try our own art and creativity offering guidance when needed. I would recommend this group to anyone who wants to learn more about drawing and meet other artists.

ARTISTS
Jacqueline Verweij
I was born and raised in The Netherlands, and was fortunate to attend the prestigious Academy of Arts in Amsterdam where I studied graphic design and fine arts for 5 years. After this I have practiced all different art forms as as a painter and graphic artist for many years.
After moving to the U.S., I started to explore the digital design world but have always been active in the "classic" arts of painting, watercolor, sketching, etc., and I was fortunate to work in this field for many years.

Jacqueline Verweij is available for private bookings

Available most Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm. I can do private lessons (painting, oil, watercolor, etc.) digital design, portraits and anything else that is requested.

I've worked as a cinematographer for decades. For this painting, I applied a technique that I've used in filmmaking. That is, shallow depth of field. The only parts on the painting that are sharp ( in focus) are the bird and the foreground beach.

In this painting I wanted to convey the intensity of the fox's stare - that something has caught his eye and he is standing perfectly still watching it! I am always intrigued with how light hits a subject - this is why I love using oil paints as you can get such a depth of colour (I layer up the colours) and then the last few brushstrokes are the highlights and that is when the magic happens!

This is Lucy, one of our favorite family dogs. She is the sweetest pooch and loves to ride in the car, windows opened. She is in her glory as her ears catch the wind and almost smiles. I tried to capture her wonderful nature in this watercolor painting. I used very heavy pigment to give detail to her fur. I so love the many styles watercolor allows you to create. It is one of my favorite paintings because, I Love Lucy:)

This scene is from an early morning boat ride in New Hampshire - we had been here a couple of times over the last few years. It was so quiet and the water so still . The early morning fog had not lifted and people were still not stirring. I snapped a photo when I saw this scene with the colorful leaves framing the waiting boats. I knew I would paint this one day. It?s a 24 x 30 gallery wrapped oil painting. It can be seen at the Elizabethan Gallery.

This is a detail style (aka meticulous style) painting done on a sized shuen paper known as glass paper. Sumi ink and a small brush are used to draw the outlines and a layer of ink washes are added for shading.
